Tour Description

Your journey will take you past farms and hills decorated with prayer flags, over high mountain passes and through small villages. Along the way you may be able to make offerings, or worship in one of the many temples or monasteries — or alternatively, partake in the national sport of archery.

Along the journey, we’ll provide comfortable accommodations, time for relaxation and reflection and opportunities to enjoy local entertainment and customs. Let your journey begin today.

DAY 1
Arrive in Paro
 

You'll arrive in Bhutan, with a view of some of the world's highest peaks on your way in. On your first day, we'll visit two of Paro's incredible temples, and have a feast of a welcome dinner.

DAY 2
Explore Jampa, Kurjey Lhakhang, and Jakar Dzong
 

We'll arrive in Bumthang and view two ancient temples, the first of which is part of a vast complex meant to contain a gigantic demon. Then, we'll tour a fortress built in 1549 to help defend Eastern Bhutan. The rest of the day is up to you, and there are many possibilities!

DAY 3
Explore Tang Ugyen Choeling Palace, Mebartsho Lake
 

We'll hike out to a remote palace that has been turned into a museum. Then, we'll visit Mebartsho, “the flaming lake," and a few other scenic destinations before heading back to the hotel for dinner.

DAY 4
Visit Trongsa Dzong and Phobjikha Valley
 

We'll explore a museum dedicated to Bhutan's monarchs, then visit the ancestral home of the royal family. After a picnic lunch, we'll head to a glacial valley, home to a wildlife preserve where we might catch a glimpse of one of the world's most endangered species.

DAY 5
Visit the Famed Fortress Punakha Dzong
 

After driving to Punakha, we'll explore one of the most architecturally amazing fortresses Bhutan has to offer. After a bit more exploring, you'll have the afternoon to yourself.

DAY 6
Drive Dochu La Pass, Tour Ancient Hongtsho Village
 

On our way to Bhutan's capital city, we'll drive through a steep mountain pass adorned with prayer flags, and visit some of the remote temples of the area. Then you'll have time to take in the sights and sounds of the capital on your own.

DAY 7
Explore Thimphu’s Past and Present
 

There's a lot to see today: temples of course, but also the National Heritage Museum, an academy teaching traditional Bhutanese arts and trades, an incredible library that houses centuries-old Buddhist texts, and more.

DAY 8
Visit Tango Monastery and Travel to Paro
 

We'll head back to Paro, but not before visiting some incredible historical, religious, and architectural sites around the capital city.

Climb to Iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery
 

We'll tour the incredible and iconic Tiger's Nest monastery. It's a fun hike on foot, but horses know the way to get you there, too, if that's more your speed. Then the rest of the day is up to you!

Depart Bhutan
 

Time to head home! Gray Langur staff will make sure you have everything you need for a safe and pleasant departure.
