Tour Description

Let us take you on a explorer’s journey with this eight-day tour that features age-old temples, imposing Dzongs and gold-roofed monasteries. On the Himalayan tour, we will explore traditional architecture, discover the attractions of the Paro Valley, including the ancient Kyichu Temple and Drukgyel Dzong, and take in the sights in Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu.

Enjoy hiking up 900 meters above the valley floor to the awe-inspiring Taktsang “Tiger’s Nest” Monastery. Walk through the Punakha Valley through rice fields and orange plantations to a hillside chorten offering sweeping valley views.

Along the journey, we’ll provide comfortable accommodations, time for relaxation and reflection, and opportunities to enjoy local entertainment and customs

DAY 1
Paro
 

You'll arrive in Bhutan, with an incredible view of the Himalayas on your way in. We'll tour two incredible ancient temples, and then you have some time to explore Paro on your own.

Thimpu
 

There's a lot to see in Bhutan's capital city: temples of course, but also the National Heritage Museum, an academy teaching traditional Bhutanese arts and trades, an incredible library that houses centuries-old Buddhist texts, and more.

DAY 3
Thimpu
 

The Tango Monestary, just 7 miles outside of Thimpu, is an impressive building built into a hillside. We'll hike about 900 ft up to it, then tour the complex, which is now a Bhuddist university. Later in the day, we'll visit Tashichoedzong, "The Fortress of the Glorious Religion." The expansive dzong houses some national and religious governing bodies.

Punakha
 

We'll drive over Dochula Pass, where on a clear day you can see the highest peaks of the Himalayas. Once in the town of Punakha, we'll tour Punakha Dzong, a fortress built in 1637.

Punakha
 

Today's a trek through the countryside surrounding Punakha, with stops to learn about the history of the region and traditional Bhutanese music.

Thimpu
 

In the morning, we'll visit an ancient Hongtsho village, and on our way back to Thimpu, we'll tour a dzong that now houses Bhutan's Institute of Language and Cultural Studies

Tiger's Nest
 

Those who choose to will hike up to this incredible monastery, a Bhutanese icon, tucked high in the mountains (if you don't want to hike, it's okay, our horses do!). We'll see a few more sights around Paro, and then you'll have the afternoon to yourself to relax and explore.

Depart Bhutan
